I have seen and read about bettas being able to be in tanks with other fish.
Is that true? If it is what fish go with bettas? I have 2 bettas in seperate 1.5 gal. tanks. They are both peaceful fish. My blue betta has been shrinking for the past 6 months. I have had him for over a year now. His tail is almost a nub. He swims around a lot and swims quickly. I think he has fin rot but I think it might be too late. Please tell me about the betta compatibility. Thanks

i had a betta with fin rot and cured him so by all means keep trying!

Yes, bettas can be kept with other fish. Make sure they are not fin nippers, or have long fins like bettas, or the betta will try to fight them. My betta is with zebra danios, corry catfish, and jumbo black tetras and they get along fine. Some bettas are more agressive than others so your milage may varry.

fin rot can be a sign of poor water quality, so maybe you could try increasing your water change schedule, also, make sure you don't use plastic plants, they can damage their fins

I have a few plastic plants in the tank. Maybe that is why I see holes sometimes in their fins. They grow back together though. In my 29 gal. I have live plants.

Mine is with adf's, cories, loaches, and has been with mollies.

I have 2 experiences: 1 betta was a nervous wreck in this situation, the other was not (that is why he is still there).

WARNING: you have to observe the betta with the other fish, there is no way of telling otherwise, IMO. Not even if your fish seems peaceful or aggressive in a solo setting. I thought I figured my fish's aggresion level well, and when put in the community tank, it acted totally different.

Don't get other anabetids (gouramis etc) with it. THere should be threads about this so you can figure other compatibilities. there are also compatibility charts on the net, but even with those you have to watch that the info isn't eroneous and your betta might not work with the fish they have there, though another would.

good luck

I have had my betta with zebra danios, cory cats, otos, loaches, and rasboras, everyone got along fine. I agree that it depends on the attitude of each fish. No fin nippers (most barbs) or fish with long fins that the betta might nip (angels, fancy guppies, swordtails). No other fish like the bettas, as mentioned above (gouramis). Plenty of plant cover and hiding places for everyone in the tank.

Did you remove the fake plants that might be damaging their fins? Silk would be better than plastic. Hopefully you can treat him and get him better!!
