hey there! i just got 2 male crowntails from my LFS and got the biggest betta tank with a divider.maybe a 1/2 gal. now, i dont feel that they each have enough room. i have a 55 gal that is my pride and joy, with lots of mollies, some platies, and angel fish, 5 danios, 2 plecos, 2 clown loaches, and what i think may be a tiger barb. (my b/f got it for me, and on the reciept it said it was a barb, but it doesnt look like any i have ever seen, maybe a tetra or something). i was wondering if a 55 gal would be too big for a betta. my mollies may like the long fins and pick at them, or the angel too. my brother has 1 in his 30 gal, and does great, but i think my tank would have too much of a current for him to be really happy. i also have a 20 gal with alot of fry. would that maybe be better for him?
also, my tanks are much warmer than their room temp tank, how would i go about transitioning him from cool to warm??
sorry if this is kind of confusing, i never planned on buying bettas, so i dont know enough about them, just tryin to be a good mama.
thanks to everyone who helps me out here at AC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

The barb and angels may nip at him and there is no such thing as to large of a tank. The current thing I'm not o sure about, mine seems like playing the current I make when I do water changes.

To acclimate him to the water take his cup and float it in the tank you're going to put him in. Add a few ounces of water every five minutes. After an hour his water should be very similar to what he'll be living in and you can put him in.

I have my Betta in a 20 gallon with 5 cories and he loves it in there! Swims about and plays in the airstone current and the filter current. From what I've read though, their reaction to current varies from Betta to Betta. :)

I would worry less about the current and more about the barb and angles. When I moved my betta from a bowl to my heated 10 gallon, I put him in a ziplock with some of his water, floated him for 15 minutes, then added some water every 10 to 15 minutes for an hour, then put him in the tank.

I tried my Betta in my 55G community tank. He was fine with the other fish but the current off the HOB filters and the air stones tore up his fins pretty badly.

yeah, i could see how that could happen, and i do have alot of bubblers, air stone, and bubble wands. i think i will first put him in the 20 gal with only the fry guppies, mollies and playties. there is less of a current, and only 1 little bubbler. plus, i already have lots of hiding ares for the babies.

thanks everyone for all of your help and suggestions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
amber! :D
