i have had two bettas over the course of 4 months. the first one died after about 3 weeks of being in a fully established tank. the second betta i got about 2 weeks ago, different tank, with guppies and 2 coreys. the betta was doing great, he had plenty of places to hide, the current wasnt strong, and he had his own share of the food. he went belly up four days ago. all of my water perameters are fine, ammonia, nitrites are 0 and nitrates are 10, ph is 7.6

about 6 months ago, my girl friend bought her brother a betta and a 2.5 gallon tank. his idea of a water change is removing all of the water and replacing it with tap water only when he cant see the fish when it is at the front of the tank. what is wrong with my tank, but the rotting fish food depository can have a betta just fine?

I'm assuming you have all the usual stuff like heaters and filters and stuff, right?

What are you feeding them?

if i ever got another one, it would go in my 10 gal. heater, hob, air pump with air rock, plants, thermometer, hood, sand substrate, and is being fed flakes, betta bits, and i saw the last one grazing on the java moss and the hornwort in the tank.

Bettas like a temp of around 80 degrees. They also prefer a slow flow to the tank water. I know you said someone you know completely neglects his tank and the betta in it but that is his problem. Believe me, it will catch up with him.It is also possible that you just got bad stock. Were both of the bettas from the same store? What is your water change schedule like?
