Bettas + Platys

I had a betta that got along fine in a community tank and when he passed away I got another. The new betta spent his day chasing all the other fish. I had to quarantine him in a breeder net. He is my wifes classroom betta so as soon as the holidays end he will be bacjk in his 3 gallon classroom tank.

I had the best luck adding the Betta to the Platies after the Platies had been in the tank a while, and then "train" the betta using a breeder net when he got aggressive. The betta would then spend a day or two watching the other fish through the net and eventually lost intrest and was fine when I let him back out of the breeder net.

I didn't have any problems with adding a male (and a female for that matter) to my community tank, but I did notice that some of the platys tried to nip on the male betta's fins (go figure)...

I don't see the harm in your plan, just keep an eye out for any aggression from either fish.

I presently have 2 tanks with a male betta and some platies in each one. They are doing fine with no conflicts. The bettas seem more active than what they are when kept alone.
