I have a betta in a .5g tank, and his tail seems to be stuck together? Also, his dorsal fin seems to be coming apart, seperated at the rays.

Im thinking it may just be age, but, his tail is bothering him. How can i fix this? Is there anything I can do?

Unfortunately, i have no test kit.

Typo, I would float him in a smaller bowl right in his tank, like 16 oz size and change his water every day, adding aquarium salt to it. That is how I treat any of my betta who damage their fins for whatever reason. It works very well for me and I usually notice an immediate immprovement in the health of the fins when I do this.

Usually I will have 2 bowls floating in the tank, one with the betta in it and another all set up with fresh clean aged water with the aquarium salt in it. Everyday I "flip" the betta into the clean bowl and set up the other bowl for the next day. Floating them in the tank keeps the temps warmer and more stable, so no worries about temps being the same when you change the bowls.

Half a gallon?

Lol...guess it would be hard to float a 16 oz bowl in a half gallon tank...(DoH!)

Just keep the water good and clean, bout all you can do. YOu could treat him with bettafix as it seems he may have finrot, but I wouldn't use anything more harsh than that..bettafix is pretty mild, but it's a 7 day treatment....and you aren't supposed to change the water during treatment.
