bettas with ....

the first picture is actually a male veiltail, with possibly a little bit of crowntail genotype (its hard to tell if his fins are torn up a bit, or if that is a bit of crowntail "raying"). the second picture is definitely a crowntail male.

as for the female, it is difficult to tell unless you really know what to look for in the finnage. i would say she is more crowntail than anything else.
 
Like i said Mike, the first male pic is most likely veiltail, which is the most common strain of bettas sold in LFS these days. The second male, the crowntail, is in superb shape as far as finnage. I don't see why you would be bummed, they are very beautiful.

It would make for interesting coloration if you decided to breed the female with the crowntail male. but please make sure to read up on all you can first if you do decide to do it.
