Bettas

Platy do not really 'court'. The male chases after a female he likes and 'runs into/against' her. Males are pretty annoying, if they are not eating, then they are going after a female, unless they are sick. All the females want to do is hunt for food, they never show interest in males.

And mine don't breed in the 90g. The current the 3 filters make is too much, plus the other fish would eat the eggs/fry. The male was in the tank first, but then I had to find a new place for the females, so I tossed them into the big tank and they are doing great.

I could be wrong as I'm not exactly the best at identifying male plakats, but the betta on the left in the first picture has extremely male looking ventrals to me. Really keep an eye on he/she. Very pretty fish though :)

i agree here. that same fish is in the last photo, right? looks very 'male-ish' to me too.

you've confirmed that all your bettas have a white bump (ovipositor) near the base of the ventral fins?

does it look like they have a white butt? then if so yes! lol always found that weird
and ive had livebearers but this new one just doesnt seem to want to rub up against the 5 females i offered him lol

*ive actually only seen it on 2 and 3 because that fish likes to hang in the back plus its fins kinda get in the way of me looking. Ill check in the morning but i have had it for about 5 months and i havent seen any violent behavior or bubble nests (i have a ugf so it shouldnt get wrecked if it made one)

Only livebearers rub up against each other. Bettas mate differently.

I wouldn't judge the gender based on bubble nests either. Some bettas just aren't huge bubble nesters. Most of mine actually haven't been.

Things might seems peaceful for a while with a male betta in the tank, but the thing about males is that you might just wake up one morning to a tank full of dead fish all of the sudden.

After doing a little thinking and comparing to my plakat boy, I'm about 95% sure that yours is indeed a male. His fins are too long, coloring too bright, and definitely not a veiltail female. Honestly, I think I'd separate him personally just to avoid any possibly deaths.

oh srry i was referring to my platys when i was talkin about rubbing
As she went for air i saw the ovipositor (white hole)
Her flare is definently not as big as the examples i had to compare
I got from a petco and i was guessing it was a plakat or it kept that tail type at the least
Since i was thrown off from your posts i investigated sexing and it seems to me the most accurate way to sex is the white spot
Thk you all for the comments

Awesome bettas! I'm thinking about starting a betta sorority sometime in the future since they look extremely fun!

Betta sororities are fantastic, as close as you can get to having a tank full of males :P lol

Though from my own experience and what ive read of others/seen in their pics, Females frequently establish a hierarchy which results in aggression towards ..well, all but the top fish :p.

Mines gotten to the point where Rank 2 Female's fins are pretty beaten up and is currently living in a bucket, whilst rank 1 charges my breeding convict couple. Absolute madness, though good fun to watch as neither are getting hurt.

Never seen papa convict swim as quick as when the betta charged outa the plants hood flaring :p
