I have a 125 g tank that is home to like 12 Malawi cichlids. The substrate is crushed coral and my filtration consists of an under gravel jet system. Aquaclear 110 HOB, and an Eheim 2217 canister.I have noticed very tiny particles that are not being removed from the filter.I`ve read where I can add a HOT Magnum or a diatom filter for polishing my water. What other options would I have to make my water clearer?

Thanks!

Are you using the Ehfisynth Pads for the Eheim (the white pads)? They trap the finer particles in the water. Under gravel systems with cichlids don't usually work out too well, with all the digging that they do. A Hot Magnum is good for a portable tank polishing filter.

You could also add a couple layers of fine filter floss on top of the sponge in your AquaClear. You can buy it as filter floss from the pet store (it is cheap) or get it even cheaper as 100% polyester hypoallergenic quilt batting from the sewing section of Wal-Mart. .. .
