How long have you let him go without feeding him live? I would get a couple kinds of frozen and try to feed him those. If he doesn't eat, then wait a few days. Still not eating? Wait a few more. He could easily go 2 weeks without any negative consequences. It's very important that you get him on some kind of dry or several types of frozen food.

You should also try to find out what species you have as I know some species stay in the 9-10in range, while I have personally seen on that was about 18in long and was bigger around than my forearm.

Google Polypterus and you should get tons of hits.
 
You need to wean it on other food, not just live.

I'm guessing its a P. Senegalus, and if it is, it'll max out at 13".

Many fish, such as your gar and tiretrack, will outgrow your tanks.

Personally I think all your multiple threads could have been combined into one. Post ONE thread and ask several questions. It just helps keep the forum a little less clutterd, and tends to annoy people less.

I counted 7 threads by you on this one page alone.... all of which could have been combined into one.
