I know this is an old thread but I have to put in my two cents. Years ago I bought a polypterus because I did not think my fish were small enough to fit in it's mouth. The polypterus was not huge at all but managed to eat my ENTIRE school of good-sized glass cats. I was heart broken!! Just think twice about what you are putting this eel/fish with.
Wow, good to know. I guess I will have to move the other tank mates out sooner that I thought. The Senegal Bichir is a great fish. I just purchased mine from Petsmart the other night and put him in my 40 gallon breeder. He's really active and a fun fish to watch. 55 gallon would be perfect for him.
