would it be alright to feed my bichir crickets once in a while?
i've tried it once and he was thrilled with trying to find them, but not sure if they are nutritious enough or if there are any other issues to look for.
he usually gets bloodworms, shrimp chunks, bits of fish, flakes, and shrimp pellets. and the occasional tankmate. but i try to discourage that.

only problem is bichirs are not surface feeders, so unless you find a way to get the crickets to sink they will have a hard time finding them.
the only time mine will eat at the bottom is if its a sinking pellet... everything else he eats at the surface

many bichirs will eat off the surface, others wont. but i wouldnt feed anything but high quality prepared foods. no need for crickets. pellets and frozen and it should thrive.

my bichir will eat wherever the food can be found. he'll even jump out to "attack" if i hold it above the water.

My senegal, moke and some of my delhezis take food from the surface. The senegal and moke are about 9 inches and dels are about 6 inches. My ornates would nip at the floating silver sides but that's about it. I haven't seen it eat at the surface yet.

Let me guess, you own a juvenile senegal, which prefer to stay at the surface in floating plants or on top of filter oulets and heaters. Am i psychic?
if you were psychic, i dont think you would have said "the problem is they are not surface feeders..."

i dont think 2 yrs old would still be considered a juvenile

Most bichirs are not surface feeders preffering to root around the sustrate for foods. For example only my female P.p.polli willingly takes floating foods from the surface-Anne
