I am going to get a 55 and was wondering if i could get a bichir in there the tankmates would be:

5 Black phantom tetras
5 red phantom tetras
3 moonlight gouramis
Maybe a fantail goldfish if i can

Is this possible??:help:

I believe the bichir would eat your tetras, and possibly the gouramis as well. Goldfish need cooler water than bichirs. Also, the bichir once full-grown will be cramped in the 55.

I think you should wait on the bichir until you can get a 75 gallon or larger tank, and make it a species tank or find some other big tough fish to keep with it.

You could keep a P.senegalus in a 55.However as stated above the tankmates you listed would be snacks.Tankmates would need to be about 4'' in lenght and should be fairly deep bodied-Anne

yea senegal would be fine but those fish would get eaten. excellent tankmates include angels, african BROWN KNIFE, larger gouramis...etc( not rough cichlids either)

I think he decided not to keep one judging by his other topic.:) He has considered the small community fish so putting a bichir there is a big risk.
