i have a 100 gallon heavily planted amazon themed tank. it's currently housing 15 neons, 6 angels, 1 royal pleco and three cories and hoping to get some discus. i want a big fish from the amzon (besides plecos) that would not eat my neons. I was also wondering if a black ghost knife would eat the neons, and how big do they get

20 inches plus 125G tank minimum

When your angels reach full size, they may eat your neons.

My cousin once had a tank with angels and neons. They got along fine until the angels grew. After that the angels liked to suck the neons into their mouths then spit them out repeatedly which killed the neons. He caught it too late and ended up loosing all his neons.

Yes, the BGK would eat the neons. I have a 6" african brown knife that goes nuts for neon-sized feeder guppies. Most of the fish from the Amazon get huge, including but not limited to RTC, Lima Shovelnose, Pacu, Piranha, Peacock Bass, Electric Eel, Arrowana, etc. There are supposedly a few other types of tetras and even corys found out there, so that could be a start. I'm not certain as to what else would fit into an "amazon theme."

general guide big fiish, eat small fish itskind of the circle of life stuff

thanks for the help, i guess ill just get discus with the neons and some cool plecos

Doesn't even need to be big fish. My Columbian Tetras were nipping my Neons so bad, I lost two in less than a day. I took them back and got Cardinals instead, no problems since. I think that Neons should only be kept with Neons or similar small fish.

yeah, as someone said, big fish will eat small fish, if you've ever had an oscar..lol

angels can be kept with neons..when they're small.

they seem to not bother with cardinals though.

just curious,

you have 6 angels?? are they young?

chances are you are going to get a pair..have you considered your options if this happens.

you should be fine with 1 pair in a 100 gal tank..but they will get pretty feisty if they pair up.

how many discus were you thinking?
