Big Cyano Problem

I am having a real big problem with this cyano. I had some algea problems but now its the red slime kind. Had this setup for probably 2.5 years now and now this. I do a 10 - 15 gal change evry week. I ask my LFS and he tells me it could be my skimmer for one. I have a Remora and there tech support tells me I need a larger pump, instead of the Maxi Jet 1200 which I now have. I just bought a Mag Drive 3 because that what they suggest and this Mag Drive is alot heavier. I'm not so sure this skimmer can hold this without breaking. Anyone tried this?

what water levels were normal? what kind of water do you use to make salt?
 
Is your tank in direct sunlight, or do you have an excessive amount of light on your aquarium through out the day?
 
really, you think this is my big problem? I usually run my lighting this long and have never had this bacteria problem since I started the reef setup.
 
I'm not sure. If the tank has been up for 2.5 years and your just starting to get the problem I don't know what the cause is. If you recently changed the lights to 14hrs I would say yes, but I guess thats not the case. Taking the photperiod down should help reduce how fast its comming. The way I got rid of it was by scraping the glass and blowing it off the rocks, then I would siphon it up during a water change. Make sure your RO/DI water is good, and do water changes. With you doing 10-15gallons a week, thats a good deal of water changes I don't know what would be giving you a cyano problem now, it sounds like your doing things right. Try cutting down the light period and removing as much as you can manually.
