Big enough for a gar?

Which species did you see? I think they're beautiful, especially the longnosed ones. I'm really fascinated with native wildlife. Which is why I want something native, rather than koi or whatever you'd usually find in a pond. I'm completely against keeping wild animals as pets so I'm wondering if keeping native fish in a pond, that I would build to mimic their natural environment, would qualify as breaking my own rules?

That's not native. It's from Asia. And it needs warm water. It'd die here in the winter.
