I would go with this idea, but also get a picture of the size of a 55G tank (the biggest most average people would get) and then somehow have the ability to overlay the pictures of the fish onto the tank to show people that while a 55G tank is big, its not big enough to hold a 4' fish.

Cheaper than actually setting up a tank as well.

But I don't think people would actully keep a 4' fish. For example no one would want a 4' RTC.

You are right, most people would not want a fish that big, but thats not the point, the point is to educate people on how big the fish gets and how big it is in comparison to what most people consider a large tank.

i like the picture idea but i think that the stuffed fish idea is not to bad because you can see a life sized picture of a full grown tiger and think "wow thats huge"
but if you have a stuffed version of that full grown tiger and you see it in full 3D you might get a better feel for the real size of the animal

The main problem with the stuffed full size versions of the fish is probably a) finding stuffed full grown fish and b) finding space in the LFS to keep them. Most LFS I have been in are not exactly hugely spacious.

I've spent almost 8 hours already trying to find either life sized posters OR stuffed animals and haven't had a bit of luck. So, c) expense may be added.

I just thought of an idea-I would get a ten gallon tank and put a fake ten inch fish in it to illustrate why the inch of fish per gallon rule is not correct.

The most rediculas fish I commonly see sold is pacu. If they are going to sell pacu I think they should have a minimum of 1000g display with a small 25lb pacu in it.

I would say, just don't carry them in stock. When someone asks, explain that they are lovely fish, but get huge and you can special order them.
