Big Question!!!

1 pepermint shrimp kill about a hunrderd in my 75 gallon. the only problem with joes juice, is that it is very hard to get the tiny anemones, so you will have to administer it a few times.

Proud owner of 2 peppermint shrimp

Well I am now the proud owner of two peppermint shrimp. Who knew that I would be an adult with one dog and two peppermint shrimp. I feel so old now! Actually a follow up, due to my job, I was able to purchase 2 peppermint shrimp but do not have the time to get them in my tank for 20 hours, will they live? The LFS guy gave me a large bag with air. I also for random sake bought a .75 gallon critter carrier with air openings. Does anyone suggest either leaving them in the bag for 20 hours or putting them in this little critter carrier?

As a side note to my current lighting dilemna, I have a 45 gallon, 24 inch tall hexagon tank. I don't want to feel deprived of any nice sealife down the road. Due to my tank only being 22 inches wide, the best I could purchase was a Coralife CF 2X65W fixture. I am hoping someone can give me advice for either:

1. Just sticking with it.
2. Adding a Coralife CF 96W fixture (the one with the 4 bulbs/6700K) - totaling 226W
3. Exchange the fixture via online company and upgrading to the Coralife MH/CF fixture which gives 175W MH and 130W Blue CF light. But I have an acrylic tank and worry about melting it or cooking my fish.

Thanks.

20 hours is a long time. I would move them to the critter carrier, and make sure to agitate the surface every hour or so. The gas exchange will help a bit. If you see any solid wastes, try using a straw to remove them as well--in a small volume, any waste will cause problems.

As far as the lighting, you will probably be happier with the metal halide fixture if you are thinking about corals. Trying to cram a couple of PC fixtures over the tank will be frustrating. It will be fine with an acrylic tank, but will need to be 9-12" above the tank to dissipate heat.

More light

To the lighting question, I have the Coralife 130W total fixture. I am considering buying the Coralife PowerQuad with 6700 white lights, which would give me a total of 161 White and 65 Blue. It would be a pain in the *** to ship back the Coralife fixture and order a new Coralife Aqualight Pro giving me 150 MH and 130 Blue. What I was thinking to cheat a little would be to buy the Coralife Aqualight Pendant which would give me 150 MH. I just to figure out how to rig it. I definetely wouldn't want to have this little thing hanging down, so maybe I can devise something out of wood to hang it over my tank, about 9 inches up. Does anyone have any ideas for me? Or should I just go with the extra Powerquad which would still give me 161 total white?
Recommendations please.

I just killed about 365,741,274 aiptasia today at work, injecting them with a saturated calcium hydroxide (kalkwasser) solution. Works great. Just stick the needle into the body and inject enough kalk to make it bloat up a little and 10 minutes later it's all shriveled up and dead. We had an outbreak in our saltwater tanks... at least they stayed out of the LR tank.

A cheaper method to get rid of them is to inject them with lemon juice. You need a small bore syringe (which, depending on where you live, may be available for a nominal fee without a prescription from your local pharmacy...although when I bought mine they also gave me a pamphlet...about the dangers of sharing needles I felt like saying"No, really, it's for my saltwater tank!" "Really, sir, it's none of our business".) You need only a small amount, but have to move quick, or they withdraw. 100% success, plus you can actually use the lemon juice for other things...
