It's been awhile since I've been in here..... it's been getting a little crazy with cichlids, and I felt like I needed some time away (although I learned alot!)

I was curious if anyone had huge (150+ gallon) fish-only tanks, and what were the mixtures of fish that you had in them? This is one of those, "One day, when I'm not living in an apartment and am not poor, I'm going to get a huge tank, you know, like 240 gallons, and put in...." types of questions. I like to hear what other people have because it kind of inspires me, and I love to contemplate.

If you don't have one of these tanks, you can still contribute with a "dream scenario"!

I have a reasonably big tank at 1850g, unfortunately it is freshwater, so I cant give you any ideas on what to put in it. How about going a tank with just damsel fish, that would look cool, for a while anyway.

I was just thinking about this tonight... I saw a post the other day of someone's 240 gallon (in another forum) and it got me thinking what I would do with one.

I'd like Heniochus butterflies (I've read they like being in pairs or small schools... truth?), maybe some large angel (like an Imperator or something), a couple of clownfish with a huge anemone (would the angel nip at it?), and maybe a few others....

I was just curious as to what other people had!

Anything is possible, but leaving out the anemone will greatly reduce your level of care/maintenance. Other than that, keeping a large fish only or FOWLR system really doesn't take that much more effort than something in the 55-75 class. Mostly just bigger water changes. I think the most promising direction currently for larger systems is the macro algae filter in a lighted sump/fuge, maybe with a DSB. The key is a big QT; big enough to handle the bio load for that jumbo display. A jumbo display with amyloodinium or marine ich can be a jumbo headache. Giant reef systems are another story; a lot of hobbyists get in over their heads trying to manage 300-plus gallon reef systems. The lighting and dosing issues alone can pose serious challenges. Here is a great inspirational link to Wayne Shang's site and his amazing reef and FO systems... enjoy.

even if you do a fish only marine tank you shuld still put live rock in it that will help to maintain the water to a certain point and give a little bit of intrust to the tank thats my 2 cents ..

I have a 200gal...soon to be upgraded to a 360gal.

Currently, I'm keeping a 3' Whitemouth Moray, a 2.5' Hawaiian Dragon Moray, a 12" Volitan Lion, a 10" Porc Puffer, an 8" Red Coris Wrasse, a 5" Queen Trigger, and a 2" Three Striped Damsel.

I have a temporary resident, at the moment. It's an 8" FoxFace Lo. I rescued him from a 35gal. tank. He currently has no tail or back fins...but they're growing back. As soon as he's healthy, I'll be looking for a home for him, for free.
