Big Al's Multi-Purpose Water Conditioner- 64OZ.
Our Price: $16.99

Big Al's Multi-Purpose Water Conditioner helps repair the damaged tissue of tropical fish and marine fish with a unique formula that contains aloe vera, nature's legendary first-aid plant. Dechlorinates source water and neutralizes chloramine, a detrimental sterilizing chemical compound which does not evaporate from water. Use Big Al's Multi-Purpose Water Conditioner when setting up an aquarium, changing water, and adding new fish. Aids in the healing of skin wounds, torn or damaged fins and fish that have been damaged due to injury or disease.

just called them, doesn't treat detoxify ammonia or nitrites like prime does. but I am sure there are people who use & find this a great product.

$16.99 = 64oz so buying 2 = $33.98 = 1gal more than 1/2 the cost of Prime

dosage - dechlor 5ml per 10g, dechloramine 10ml per 10g

so I ask is it worth the price of Prime 64oz at $40 (1gal = $69) to get:

PRIME:
Protects fish by removing ammonia, chloramine, and chlorine. Detoxifies Nitrite & Nitrate. Provides slime coat. Safe for freash and salt water aquariums. 325 ml. treats 3250 gallons of water.

your valued feedback is welcomed. thks all

i use it and have no complaints i like the price :)

so you're not concerned that it doesn't detoxify am ni or na, right?

I guess I should be ok with big als since my discus tank has been reading good with am = 0 ni =0 na =5 with lots of plants now.

agree? I would love to make the trade off to save $$ !!

thks again

I was involved with a Big Als for a short period of time. In that time we had lab analyses run comparing Big Al's chemicals to comparable API products. Big Al's chemicals are more dilute and if you figure out the cost per gal they're no bargain. If you really want to save money buy bulk sodium thiosulphate for $6 lb. A pound treats 25,000 gal. Way cheaper than any other way to neutralize Cl.

thks, I remember someone else a while back also recommending sodium thio...

so you're not concern in detoxing am ni or na, correct?

right now our water supply is chlorinated & not using chloramine.

so the hype of detoxing other substances besides neutralizing chlorine is wasting $ when all we should do is dechlor with sodium thio... & doing frequent w/c to control am ni na & have some plants & clean filters periodically.

that sums it up?

I have been using Prime Pond for a year now which is the exact same as Prime only concentrated and it works great and is a super bargain in dose and price over regular Prime. The 2L Prime Pond bottle treats 40,000 gallons and is on sale here and I just bought a bottle since with 6 aquariums and 684 gallons to treat I need it.

Regular 2L Prime treats 20,000 gallons; 2L Pond Prime treats 40,000 gallons.

Is Pond Prime more concentrated or do they recommend a lower dose for pond fish?

Quote from Seachem.com:
"Why It's Different? Nearly all companies manufacture a product that removes chlorine. None of those, however, can compare in quality, concentration, or effectiveness to Pond Prime®. Pond Prime is the most concentrated dechlorinator on the market. A single 500 mL bottle treats over 10,000 US gallons. Pond Prime® will remove both chlorine and chloramines from municipal water supplies. Pond Prime® also contains a binder which renders ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate non-toxic. Additionally, Pond Prime® promotes the natural production and restoration of the slime coat rather than relying on artificial or non-native slime compounds."

My water contains chloramines and I still use thiosulphate. I find that even with 50 % changes any ammonia liberated from the chloramine is gone in a few hours. If all you have to contend with is chlorine the decision is even easier. The way I see it $6 for 25000 gal is just a better deal than $34 for 40000 gal. Ymmv.
