Bio cycle

Can anyone give me some advice on how do I get the bio cycle started in a new 60 gal aquarium?

If you have fish in your tank, your cycle is on its way. If not, you need to either add fish or go the "fishless cycle" method using ammonia.

Alternatively, you can get some gravel or filter media from a friend with a cycled tank, or buy some bio-spira.

any seeded media will cut a week+ off your cycle time. BioSpira works magics, too. Fishy cycling is tricky and requires care.

If you do a fishy cycle STAY AWAY FROM GOLDFISH ...

They are the carrion of the fish world as far as i'm concerned. Those fish pump so much waste and disease into a tank if you don't get them in the right place it's not even funny.

Danio make the best cyclers ... They are tough!

I once kept six danio in a bucket for 3 days with nothing but a blanket over them and a daily 25% waterchange and every one of them made it just fine =)
