Hello all,
I think this will be my first post here, so........hello all.
I would like to ask for the collaboration of this freshwater think tank in a little project that I was recently assigned in my Advanced biology class. I think it could be pretty fun for me...and it might give all you guys and gals a little enjoyment too, a use for all that idling fish knowledge crammed into your heads.
I've been surfing the aquarium forums for a couple of years now, and am curently working on my own 50 gal reeftank. So I have basic fish smarts and enloy the hobby. Today, I hppened to make an innocent comment about the biology room's fresh water tank....mainly about its unkempt state and its lack of livestock(one albino catfish). When my instructor asked if I was interested in fish tanks, several of my friends chimed..."he's a fish tank freak". They dont seem to share the same apreciation for our aquatic friends. Or mabe it has something to do with the fact that you can only start so many conversations with the outside world begining with, "Guess what i bought for my tank?" To make a short story less long, I was offered a very small budget (+0 $100) to restock/refurbish/maintain our science room fish tank(no labs are preformed on these animals, they are for observation purposes only.) As often happens with humans, the mention of money and buying things, caused several of those same "fish freak" friends to volunteer in this fishy outreach program.
My mission for you, if you chose to accept it-
Help restock a high school class room fish tank.
Limits- Around 100 dollars (I know, itll be hard)
-I'd like to give the tank an informative aspect, mabe some writen information perataining to the nitrogen cycle or ecology.
-Im a pretty good DIYer, so possible tank mods should be possible on a budget.
Any stock choices should be relatively hardy, freshman bio students may stick foriegn objects in the tank.
Tank Specs-
Tanks size is somewhere betwwen 80 and 100 gallons
I dont think there currently is any lighting, but i remember there being some , somwher in the school.
Unknown Filter-ill get the info
Crushed gravel substrate
Big piece of drift wood
Water circ rely on filter....fairly good flow
So .....any ideas?...and not just about stocking
Thnks, Justin
