bio spira directions question

hey now all,

I am gonna put bio spira in my three gallon eclipse tomorrow. Do I add the bio spira directly into the water? or do I put it onto the filter cartridge?
the directions were unclear so I am guessing to just add directly to water. the tank has been running for a number of days now with th ebio safe water conditioner, and bio coat.
The directions say to add the fish along with the biospira. does this sound right to those of you who have used it?

Yep, straight to the water--though adding it to the filter compartment would be fine as well. Either way, it will be distributed throughout the tank.

If you do not add fish, you will need to add ammonia in some fashion (ie, clear ammonia) to feed the newly introduced bacteria. Without it, they will die off.

Orions right, if you've got no amonia in the tank that bateria will die without a food source...

If (presumably) there are no nitrites present, add the fish and biospira at same time...

If your not sure or don't want to do it simultainiously, exactly 24 hours after the biospira goes in, add fish. You could do it sooner probably (12 hours) since there isn't anything in it anyway...

Personally I'd add bio-spira, get in the car have a nice dinner, stop at the LFS on the way home buy the fish, and put them in when you get home...

I have also used BioSpira to cycle my tanks. It works very well, BUT, keep an eye on your water parameters... test, test, test.

All was going great in the beginnning, but after awhile (I'm sorry, I don't remember how many days, or weeks), high NitrItes appeared, and I had to do many, many water changes for about a week and a half before they went down to 0ppm. That was frustrating, but they did go down.

After reading some other posts about BioSpira on the board, this seems to be a glitch in the process.

All in all, I'd say, it's a great product, and have never lost a fish using it. Just be on top of your testing. Good Luck!

Well, I guess Bio-Spira has had different effects for me. When I put it in my 29gal. (no ammonia was in it, just conditioned water) I left it there for 2 days. Then I put my 1st 2 fish in (Opaline & Kisser). I tested the water almost daily and everything was fine. Up until now, too... Maybe I was just lucky I don't know
