Bio-Spira is designed to instantly cycle the tank. That's what it does. It has been tested with professional aquarists on a large scale. It is the ONLY product on the market that does that. It REQUIRES proper handling and refrigeration in order to be viable. There is no need to do anything but follow the directions. A fishless cycle is not needed nor recommended. Using Bio-Spira is the same thing as moving a cycled filter to a new tank. The bacteria are present to handle the bio-load and MUST have a bio-load to support them.
spongeswhat kind of media or other pre-cycled things would a lfs that would help? gravel?
yes, he mentioned refridgeration, but did not say anything about getting media from somewhere else as more reliable. when you get used media from another source, you KNOW that it is full of living bacteria. with Bio-spira, it is hit or miss. even though the LFS refrigerates it, doesnt mean that the shipper did.Sort of like milk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Nolapete, well said.

I'm curious if anyone knows a place in NYC that carries Bio Spira, I'd like to try it, but no where has it or even seems to know what it is. ordering online is just silly, since most places charge a fortune to ship it refrigerated.
