as a last resort, an aquarium plant (the kind that come in pots) will help. the bacteria you need will be in the roots and the dirt in the pots.

Bio-Spira does not instantly cycle the tank; nor does Marineland even make that claim. Bio-Spira may take up to two weeks to work.

used up carbon is a great biomedia. instead of them just throwing it away, you could ask to take it from them.
yes, he mentioned refridgeration, but did not say anything about getting media from somewhere else as more reliable. when you get used media from another source, you KNOW that it is full of living bacteria. with Bio-spira, it is hit or miss. even though the LFS refrigerates it, doesnt mean that the shipper did.

I'm curious if anyone knows a place in NYC that carries Bio Spira, I'd like to try it, but no where has it or even seems to know what it is. ordering online is just silly, since most places charge a fortune to ship it refrigerated.
i think if you go to the marineland website, they have a list of people who carry their products, you put in your zip code and you can then call those stores and see if they carry biospira specifically.
biospira contains enought bacteria to suffeciently support the full number of fish you want by the size of package, it gives you enough to start , without the need of waiting for it to naturally occur plus the bacteria to consume the nitrite to nitrates so you lessen the time and stress on the fish my tanks crashed with water change, bad well water fluctuation with ph,.. neighbor was digging , messed up my well. after biospira, the tanks were all kept under 1ppm of ammonia and never spiked till done.. no stress on fish..
