I was going to buy some of the old refrigerated kind, but I found out that it was discontinued a while back and they now only carry the non refrigerated kind. Has anyone had any luck with the new stuff, or is it just another crap product like Cycle?

Dr. Tim's Aquatics "One and Only Nitrifying Bacteria" is the alternative, original formula. Dr. Timothy Hovanec worked for Marineland for a long time and has since made his own company. check it out.

Of course if you can um... "borrow" some biomedia from a friends tank, that would do just as well..

I seeded my 125 FW with regular Biospira.. seemed to work well...

Waste of money. I agree with Zigman. Get some gravel or biomedia from a friend. Put the gravel in a filter bag, so you can remove it later. Your tank will cycle in about a week.

I'm getting 200 pounds of live rock on saturday (tank is a 125)...I'm going to bring it back in rubbermaid containers underwater, so there is 0 die off...rock is very good quality, lots of coraline etc...what kind of cycle time do you think I am looking at?

I've never used any of that stuff before (still a newbie), but a handful of gravel from the LFS had my tank cycle done in less than a week, highly recommended!

I usually really hate those types of things... like... REALLY hate it... But I've seen people use it and come in for a water test in a week later and everything was perfect... I've actually been pretty impressed with it...
And they still do make a refrigirated kind, unless it was JUST discontinued, as we still have plenty at work.

Normally, I'm the same way. However, this product seems to be very different. I've even used it on a couple freshwater setups and it works perfectly.
