I purchased Bio-Spira from my lfs and added it to my tank, hoping this would help me with my nitrite/nitrate problem. Before that I have just been treating with Amquel+ and stability. I added a biomedia about a week before adding the Bio-Spira. I have been following everything that I have been told very closely and the guy at the lfs said i'm doing everything right. He said other than adding the Bio-Spira the only thing I could do was hurry up and wait. The levels have to come down themselves. My question is, how much longer should this take and when should I get my water tested again? I really want to be able to add a couple swordtails (my grabdfather-in-law has a full tank, his had babies) and a BN pleco but I don't want to do this until everything is healthy. When do you think I will be able to get my new fish?!? I'm getting impatient!

I'm sorry I forgot to mention, if you see in my signature, I do already have fish in there to support the bacteria. I did know that (just found out today), I just wanted to make sure that it's ok to add new fish now or if I should wait. Thanks for the quick reply though! :)

As long as your ammonia and nitrite are at 0, you can go ahead and add fish a few at a time.

I had been treating with the Amquel+ because it's also supposed to remove nitrites and nitrates and the lfs didn't have the Bio-Spira. Thank you for posting that though, I won't use the Amquel+ now that I have added it. Should I have my water tested again tomorrow?
