can i use the bio wheel from my other tank to start cycling a new tank. my lfs does not carry bio-spira.

Yes you can. I would say that is one of the best ways to start your cycling

Even better would be the biowheel AND Some of the filter media from the established tank. Might even want to scoop up some of the gravel from the established tank, place it in a media bag & place that into the new tank as well.

The more you use the better the tank should cycle.
