Biosphere

Sort of as in they'll only last a couple of years or so in an ecosphere, since ammonia will eventually build up to toxic levels, oxygen and nutrients will eventually run out, etc - basically all the reasons we need do water changes.

Though I'm sure a couple of years probably sounds like a full life for a shrimp to some people, Halocaridina rubra are supposed to have a 20+ year lifespan under ideal conditions and proper care.
 
just get a 5 gallon bucket thats what i did over the summer it had 2 or3 inches of sand lake water plants from the lake a crayfish 3 catfish and like 5 other baby fish it wworked just fine
 
To be fair, most ecospheres I've seen aren't actually that expensive.

I honestly don't get why everyone is only looking at the 500 dollar one. They really are not that expensive as vampie said. I've seen them in malls for far cheaper, nothing close to those prices listed on the site listed.
