I'm fairly new to aquariums. I have a 10 gallon tank with 4 tiger barbs and 2 albino cory's in it. It's been running for about 4 months. Recently I've started growing black algae on some of the fictures in the tank along with the plastic plants. Is this normal or is there some way to get rid of it?

Just seen the thread on the red algea and thought I would add some more thought. The tank was cycled before anything went in. I test the water every few days( 3 or 4 now) 0 ammonia o nitrites 10 to 20 nitrates. I turn the light on about 7 or eight hours a day. depends if it's my day off or not. I do 50% water changes once a week.

I may over feed because I haven't figured out yet how much they need to eat. I try to feed enough flake food that the cory's have enough to eat.

if you are over feeding so the bottom feeders get enough food.....try pellets, as they sink right to the bottem.
