I rinsed it in 5 gallon buckets before putting it into the tank, and there was an oily film on the surface of the water. There were a few tiny floating particles, but the film covered the entire surface.
Black Blast sand. Is it safe?

Thanks Todd! Black Diamond is the brand I was going to get, around here they sell it at Northern Tool and Equipment. I'm doing a 5 gallon with ghost shrimp and a 10 gallon with neons, and then putting the rest in a Rubbermaid tub in the shed. At $8 for 50 lbs you can't beat it, considering it's $5 for 5 lbs at Petco.
