I have a question about Black Convicts. I bought a female convict about a few weeks ago. She had a bit of pink on her, but she mostly had dark stripes on her. When she got into my brother's tank, her stripes faded, and her pink belly became more prominant. I bought a male today (no pink on him, right?). He was almost jet black...his stripes were very black and prominant. A half an hour after I put him into my tank, his stripes faded, as well. Now he has light grey stripes. My question is what causes this, and how can I get their stripes back?

Is the female being aggressive toward him?
What are your water conditions? (temperature, pH, etc...)
Also, transporting fish is very stressful on them. After some time, your male Convict will calm down and get used to his new home.

convicts changed colors with mood
mad- real dark,stripes prominent
scared-real light, stripes gone

also with breeding
My male has little to no strips on a normal day and thats why I got him. Now he is with my female and he gets a real dark black stripes and the edge of his fins also turn real dark when he wants to breed. and stress does also make fish turn a lighter color. My Female also change colors depending on mood/breeding

My tank temperature is around 75 degrees right now, and last I measured, the ph is about 7. My male got his colors back, but he isn't as dark as he was in the pet store. The female is being aggressive toward him. She won't let him in her cave with her, she keeps chasing him out...now he hangs around the filter. It's wierd, because now he has some white stuff on his fins, like he's shedding, and he's not just hanging around the filter but kissing it. I chased him away from it once, he went into the cave, and the female threw him out, so he went to the back of the tank and worked his way up to the filter again. Also, I never see him eat. I just dropped a cube of bloodworms in the tank, and the female ate her share, but he didn't eat any. He might be eating and I just didn't see, though.
