alright.. not sure what it is.. but i think we can safely say it is NOT a dolphin. LOL...

It is not a black ghost Knifefish beside the coloring the shape of the face is wrong.

i figured it was just some fancy trade name for a miscellaneous mormyrid.
I was thinking the same way as well the moment I read the title. I've encountered them before but I never had the heart set into keeping it.:)

Looks like something VERY hard to keep.....

I bet that mouth only eats certain tiny foods....

if it's a true dolphin, that would mean it's a mammal, not a fish.and for what it's worth, i don't think dolphins care too greatly if the water is salty or not.

actually a true dolphin, if you are talking about the mammal and not the fish, do care about the salt content of the water. they require it to live. their weight can't be supported in fresh water. the only dolphins that come close to being able to live in a semi-fresh water are those near the mouth of the amazon river or other rivers like that. with out the salty water they will die by suffocation.
other wise i really don't know all that much about the fish that have the dolphin name as part of their own. if anyone can figure out what that fish is that would be awesome!

knife fish for sure, a sub family of mormyrid, Rhamphichthyidea . going by the trunk nose. Theres tons of types of mormyrid and sub families , it could be many species of knifefish but im pretty sure that nose is characteristic of that family. my guess is that one i said above. Doesnt have a common name that i know of.
