Black flourite vs. eco-complete

I'd have to order either one online since the stores around here don't carry them.As far as pool filter sand goes- does it come in black or very dark brown?

I've been a bit torn between a sand substrate and a chunkier gravel-like one. The sand would be better for the cories, but I heard it clog ups filters. At any rate, the flourite is about $5 cheaper, so that's still looking better and better, lol

Eh, sand can clog your filter if you stir it up a lot. But, you can just turn off the filter until it settles, and then you should be fine.

Personally, I think just pick whatever you think looks best. They seem to perform about the same, and sand (playsand, pool sand, etc.) will do just fine as well as long as you add ferts.

If you go with flourite, get the sand. I have the original flourite and i have a hard time planting things with fine roots on them like mosses, HC, etc. The bigger pieces of flourite are really jagged and sharp.

Sand only gets into the filter if it is constantly stired up--why would you do that??

The Flourite is fine ==just have to be washed. After washing filter will clean up the "dust".
