black ghost knife fish help

ohh rite well ermm i popped a cube of frozen blood worm into the tank but none of my fish even swam near it sooo maybe they just aint hungry as i gave them a tiny bit too much food last night. but i will keep a carefull watch on them. how long have you had yours now??

size: up to 20" (49cm)
tank: 48 inches
strata: bottom-middle
pH: 6.0 to 8.0
Hardness: soft to medium. dH range: 5.0 - 10.0
temperature: 73ºF to 82ºF (23-28°C)

The aquarium for the Black ghost should be large with a small grained substrate. It should be fairly densely planted with many floating plants. The floating plants will help the fish overcome its shyness as it is nocturnal and sensitive to bright lights. Driftwood is also recommended along with some sort of inert piping for the fish to hide in. The water should be soft, and kept at a temperature of between seventy-five and eighty-two degrees. The pH should be neutral to acid. Feeding should be a mix of live tubifex brine shrimp and meaty frozen foods. The Black ghost is sensitive to water pollutants, changes in water conditions, and medications. Although timid they are aggressive to their own kind but can be housed with other large peaceful fish such as Angelfish, Discus and Gourami.

He was my b-day present in October, ummm I'd say he's about 9 months old or so now, and is near 7 inches long :)

Just so you know when you see them in the store they are approximately 3 to 4 months of age at sale time.

ohh rite well really i never even thought about how old he was wen i bought him. any help on what other fish could go in with him in the l8 future as im not buying anymore 4 a while??

He's nice with any gentle fish over 2 inches at maturity. I kind of like him wih rainbows, but if you wanted to do an African theme tank, he is nice with anglefish and or Congo Tetras. (but any peaceful largeer than 2 inch fish is a nice tankmate)

aww ok then thank you very much! i will keep you up 2 date on any developments i may have.thanks again

yer same here the first night has passed with no problems. it is great as soon as the lights go off in the tank and is dark in my room he flys about the tank and just looks great im soo happy lol

Just remember this guy can get up to 20 inches long, but rarely more than 12 to 16 inches long in captivity. He is a slow grower and might take 2 to three years to reach his full size. Life span is about 10 years, but usually only 3 to 7 in aquarium. The bigger the aquarium the better and the chances of him living a longer life and maxing out size-wise improve. Someone on here has one about 17 inches long in a 180g aquarium.

17! wow that is like massive lol!! i will be happy to wateva size he gets too. jus gotta make sure he is happy in the surroundings.
