Black gravel

cool tank afro, also midnightmadman the rule of thumb for gravel is one pound per gallon on the gravel this might hold true for sand as well, hey afro what do you use to stir your sand up also do you have any issues with dead spots and or ammonia spikes, for me i never have luck with sand i would love to fill my 120gal with black sand..

No issues as of yet. I just vacuum up the mulm while cleaning, and lightly churn the sand around in the open areas. Every now and then I move some of the hardscape around and vacuum underneath. I haven't seen much of a buildup of material in the sand itself.

i found 50lbs of pool sand to be barely enough for my 55g. And i wish now i hadnt done it. The cichlids spend so much time digging holes all over that it just look ugly unless i move the sand back daily. I have black gravel in my 10g guppy platy tank it loks great strong green plant contrast and just the black but i found that if i addd to many stones and cave it was to much color mix. I also have black sand in my othr 10g that has 3 albino cories. Th contrast looks great against the pale cories but again just with the pureblack and green plants, add anything else and it just looks bad.
