hi guys, been battling a long battle with spirogyra and decided not to use chemicals manually removed a ton of it but still grows back with a vengence... thus i have decided to give the black out method i try... so i covered up my 10 gal shrimp tank with black garbage bag... so its been about a good 10 hours now... no light, no co2, just a water filter running... im a bit concerned that the oxygen levels in the tank might bottom out and the ammonia would spike considering i have about 4 berried PFRS which i wont want to lose... so just wondering if blackouts do work? and for how long should the black out period be? or should i add an airstone to the tank?

spirogyra? starve it...

BO's really do not work well for most algae, it'll knock some back a bit......

BGA is about the only one I know will kill it off good if you get at the root cause.

cut down on your ferts.

I tried that for 2 days now... just seems to be growing with a vengence still will ... observe further... i modified the light to about to about 6 hours a day. and just dosing pressurized co2 as it got some erios and toninas in the tank
