OK, so I have noticed that a lot of SWers paint the back glass of their tank, usually black. Is there a special type of paint that you use for this? Where can you get it? Is this one of those things that you CAN get at the fish store, but can get it cheaper at HD? Thanks again!

Plain old everyday black latex paint. Goes on best with a small roller, but a brush will do although it will take several coats. Clean the glass thoroughly first with Windex or similar- sprayed onto the paper towel in another room, not onto the tank. Mist can drift, and it's just best not to get into the habit of spraying anything onto a tank.

Thanks so much!

FWIW I used flat black spray paint. It's so thin (viscosity-wise) that I thought it might adhere better to the glass. It seems to be doing a great job so far.

edit:

also, it appears glossy when you look at the front of the tank. it only looks flat when viewed from the back. Just be sure to do a good job of masking and protecting the sides and front from overspray.

Even easier, I just use a can of black spray paint on the back of all my tanks, I did the latex on my first tank, and it ended up peeling right off after about a year. The spray paint doesn't seem to peel as easily. I had to scrape it off, to get some overspray I did to the side.
