Well once again I'm going to change my substrate, I currently have a mix of blue and black gravel but I just dont like the look of it anymore.

Ive tried playsand before and I didnt like the color of it, so any white gravel is out of the question, Im looking for a dark colored sand substrate, preferably black.

Does anybody know where I can get black sand that is cheap besides the expensive sand they sell at petsmart?

I would also be able to buy flourite since I'm trying my look at planted, but Im primarily looking for black sand.

Any help is appreciated.

??? How much is this "EXPENSIVE" sand???

Don't do the Flourite Onyx sand, it's a ugly grey color, I paid like 25$ each for two bags, then had to go get the Tahitian Moon Sand to top it off cuz it's freakin grey.

I'd recommend the Flourite black sand, if you're willing to pay 20$ for a 15lb bag.

My local walmart has black playsand for something like 2.50 a bag I think.

If you plan on growing plants I would go with the flourite though, as said above, they have it in black.

Don't mean to hijack... but which department at Walmart? I'd love to get some but I've never seen anything but regular brown.

i dont think fluroite does that much, I dont see that much difference in my plants.... (just my 2 cents)
