I got some Elatine Tiandra for ground cover, and I started remember how I don't want snails in my tank (I raise Brigs as it is). Sure enough there is a nice large Pond Snail on the bag to warn me not to put these plants right in my tank.
Can I bleach diop ground cover? They also sent me 2 others Suprise! Cambomba Furcata and I can't read the other lable.
N/M I was able to find some Alum! I boguht 2 jars cuase I did not know how much I needed. Now I just read 2 TSP per gallon of water. Sweet!
Going to go dump the bleach mixture I created right now!
I have found so much mixed info on alum. I hear to mix 1 TBS per gallon then soak plants a max of 2 hours, but 2 days to kill eggs. How is that possible?
djlen says 1 TSB and leave plants in over night
and another website says
"Alum Dip
The Alum dip is more for killing microscopic bugs. Use at 1 tablespoon per gallon of water. Soak the plant for at least an hour, longer soaks of 2 to 3 days are needed to kill snails and snail eggs. For snails and snails eggs a 2-3 hour soak in a stronger solution of 3 tablespoons per gallon of water is a better choice. Alum isn't nearly as effective as the prior two for killing algae. Alum is aluminum sulfate and Alum USP can be obtained from a compounding pharmacy or grocery stores. (It's usually with the spices, herbs and pickling supplies)."
So what do I mix this stuff at? What is correct? I want to plant the tank tomarrow. I already put the plants in my puffers tank because I don't mind him eating snails but I didn't think abotu parasites etc (I think i'm ok there though)...
Time limit expired sorry to post in same thread again...
For now I am going to go with 1 TBS / Gallon and let them soak overnight. 2-3 days is too long the plants have already been in the mail for 4 days. They need to get planted ASAP. I hope I don't end up with baby snails :rant2: Please correct me if I am doing anything wrong.
