I'm very sorry. I should have assumed that you had researched the matter before posting the question, especially since your tank has been up for several years. Lot's of folks don't do that, and since your question was posted in the Newbie forum I jumped to conclusions.

You can certainly bump up the flow. The only limiting factor is the tank inhabitants.
I have a terrible time with liquid PH test kits. I finally purchased a Milwaukee PH meter. I use it in combination with a Tetra liquid kit. I can read the color variations on the Tetra a little easier than some of the others, and the results of the liquid kit agree with the meter.
