I recently got 3 bleeding heart tetras and everything was fine for a couple of days then i notice my two male guppy's fin were just all tore up. Now today i've noticed that both of my dwarf gourami's have some nips in there fins. i know its the bleeding hearts doing this, everything was fine before. Are they doing this because there's only 3 of them? i was planning on getting at least 3 more but i don't want to end up having a bigger problem.

What size tank are they in because if you had room I would add 6-9 more. I have never had a problem with them and I hope not too because I will be adding about 12-15 in with my angels when I can start stocking it.

Their in a 55 gallon. I dont think i have alot of room to at to much more. The current stock in that tank is: (31 total fish)

2 dwarf gourami's
2 guppy's
4 cherry barbs
5 neon tetra's
2 glowlights tetra
3 head and tail light tetra
3 bleeding heart tetra
2 zebra dinos
3 platy's
4 stebra cory's(I think their stebra's)

Sorry, but bleeding hearts are one of the larger tetras that "are OK for home aquariums"--(A Pacu is a tetra too, but not home friendly :) ).

Bleeding hearts do need a little room and will be less "nippy" if kept in a larger school. I have 16 in my 120 and they stay to themselves.

Your tank is not over crowded, but will be a little too tight if you were to up the Bleeding heart school to say ---about 8-10??

Ok ill go ahead and get 3 more and see how that goes. Im currently cycling another 55 so some fish might get moved around.

good luck

Just gotta watch out for the bigger tetra's. I had a male and female guppy in my tank for a while for the lady, and my black skirts tore them up a little. I managed to save the female but the male didn't make it :(

Yeah, my Tetra Minors which look allot like the bleeding hard are very aggressive. So much so I have them in my 244 African Cichlid community tank and they are right at home in the thick of the action. When I had them with my large T Barbs they would join in on bullying the other T Barbs, and I have never had one die or get sick yet. Toughest fish I have ever owned.
