Could I have a scooter blenny in a 29 gallon with 45lbs of live rock that has been running for a couple of months? Or should I have the tank up and running for a long before I add one?

Also would a lawnmower blenny be better to have than a scooter? I want the scooter because of they way the scoot across the bottom of the tank and their personalities.

Would you guys suggest something else other than these blennys?

With you saying "Scooter" i presume you mean the dragonette family...In which case i would say no, leave it to be established for a good 9 months...

A lawnmower blenny probably would be better, but you would need to provide a real good diet of algae for it as this is their main food source...

There are plenty of stocking capabilities...what is in there at the moment??

Agreed. A scooter is not a blenny at all but a dragonette like reefscape stated. They are in the same family as mandarins and are almost as hard to keep.

I fell for them as my very first fish when I setup my reef.. was all happy, got home and posted how proud I was I got my first reef type fish.. and quickly learned they are not good for new tanks. I watched mine for a day or two and noticed it wasn't eating anything I put in the tank and I didn't have any real pod population, so it went back to the LFS only to be replaced by a damsel.. who went back a month later. It was a very rocky start for me with finding good fish and beginner corals. Most LFS in my area wouldn't say anything to discourage a sale.

Yep. Mine (scooter) has been successful so far in my 29g, but I have a thriving fuge hanging on the back, too. I don't think the tank'd be big enough to support the pods w/o one.

I agree with all the above. Without a healthy fuge and a bit more time to add the scooter I'd go with the lawnmower. You can easily add to their diet by providing nori on a clip and I think you'll find they have oodles of personality as well.

I would go with the lawnmower blenny. They have great personalities and are a hardy fish. If you get a lawnmower you will love it.
