Can anyone give reasons as to why my pleco has a swollen / bloated belly. Other than the swolen belly, he looks great! Colour is good. Eyes are not swollen. It has only just occured. What is causing it, and is it treatable?

A pleco of mine died a few months ago. It showed symptoms of stomach bloat as you will notice in this postmortem picture. It died a couple of days after I noticed the problem.

Give us some information about your tank i.e. size, type, water conditions, inhabitants etc. Also what diet and with what frequency do you feed youe pleco. Someone told me that the shrimp pellets I used in the past could contribute to constipation and thus bloat. The shrimp pellets are high in protien. Keep us updated!

can you give an update on your pleco? is it still alive? if you feed them often and a lot, they will get used to the large amount of food and tend to gorge themselves. sometimes after their feeding of algae tabs, zucchini, and other veggies, my boyfriend's plecos will look like they've swallowed a golf ball.
