Bloated Clown Loach

Roan, all I'm saying is it depends on the size of the fish and whether or not it is a long term situation.
I appreciate that, but I also have to disagree with you.

Everyone says that they intend to get a bigger tank. Most do not. They keep the fish until they are stunted and then get rid of them. I'm not saying that's what is intended here, but that's what usually happens.

He's had his clowns for at least 9 weeks -- over 2 months -- they should be 2½-3" by now, maybe more depending on how big they were when he bought them. They need room to swim.

Sorry, but I stand by what I said: they do not belong in a 20 gallon tank.

Thanks Roan. If my remaining clown doesn't pull through I will wait until I actually have a bigger tank before getting more clowns. With all the info I have read lately it seems like a group of two wasn't ideal for them either and the tank isn't big enough for more than two. Unfortunately, I took the advice of my pet shop (who seemed to be reputable) as to whether they were appropriate and whether I could put them in when I did.

I am sorry I have caused these little guys so much suffering.

Thanks.

I'm throwing in with Roan…

The problem with moving them up when they get bigger is that they may not get bigger. Small tanks will stunt their growth. That's not healthy.

There are lots of loaches in this world. Big ones. Little ones.

If you have a small tank, get small loaches. If you buy a bigger tank later on, get bigger loaches.

I'm a big fan of loaches. I had every intention of owning at least a 75g by now.

I have a 30g. And 4 zebra loaches. Very nice fish.
