My blue acara's eggs hatched about a week ago . I was wondering how soon I should get them into a different tank ? Right now I've got the pair of acara's and a pair of channel cats in a 30 gal . All the fish in the tank are fairly small so far . I'm new to this and can see I'm going to be in need of a larger tank . I'd appreciate any info.....

Are thet free swiming yet?

If so. I always remove any and all my free 3 days (4 max) after free swimming.

Once they are free swimming they become a hazard to themselves. Especially if there are other fish just waiting to pounce on a rogue fish who goes exploring.

Mamma and Papa can't protect them all at this point.

And it is easier to siphon uneaten food from the bottom of a bare tank. You should probably paint the outside bottom of it a dark color so as to reduce the stress on the fry.

Here's one of my fry tanks.

This one has my 3 month old severums in it. They are soon to be moved to the bigger fry tank.

I completely agrre with Mr.Jingles. I found out the hard way years ago.

I have never had any stress problems though.
I do however keep my fry tanks (3) in a very low activity area in the basement.
