I have a 55 gal with 3 silver dollars, 1 7" blue channel cat & 1 Jack Dempsey. The JD is 2" and yesterday I added a similar size Blue Acara. The JD spent most of the night chasing the Blue Acara. Is the JD claiming the entire tank as his territory? There are enough hiding spots. Concerned that the JD will kill the Acara.
I don't think any amount of hiding spots will do a danged thing for your fishes territorial aggression!
Dagblasted straight the JD is claiming the entire tank as his territory, He's probably taken a good look around and said, "!*#^!*%, its gonna get crowded in here :mad2 ".
I too would be concerned for the BA, JD's don't have the pugnacious reputation they have for being pansies, they can be deathly brutal!
I would either split'em up into seperate tanks or take the BA back.
That Blue Channel Cat will have to go, it will get waaaay too big

I'm not joking
IMHO, that JD and the SD's would stock that 55gal just about right, perhaps a Pictus or Pim (Pimelodidae), but I personally wouldn't.
One thing to remember with semi-aggressive or aggressive cichlids is that tankmates will always be decided by the dominant individuals temperament/personality, some are mellow fellows and some are pure sociopaths.
Your JD may not accept any other other cichlid, ever...
