Can some people with Blue Acaras please post a couple of pics of their Blue Acaras. I would prefer some youger pics (1-3 inches), so I know what to look for but older ones would be fine as well.

I bought one from the LFS the other day, and it just doesn't look like one compared to some of the web-sites I've done reasearch at. Mine is blue/purple-ish all over with three white/irredecent spots on the anal fin, and an irredecent spot on the gill. It's only about an inch to an inch and a half long. I bought it figuring maybe it was just young and the other colors didn't come out yet. But now I don't think it is a blue acara because I saw a fish at another LFS and looked almost exactly the same as mine except bigger, with brownish fins which wasn't a blue acara. I don't have a camera so I can't post a pic of it.

Also, what kinda buggs me out is that I'll do a google search, and there are fish on there that look like green terrors, and convicts. Do Blue Acaras, really just look like another green terror? The photos here at AC aren't very clear.

I guess I was kind of expecting something that looks like what is found at fishprofiles.com (http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/blueacara.xml).

couldnt see the picture but i know that my blue acaras are mostly like greenish gray, with blue iridescent markings on them throughout their body.
Blue Acaras are a cousin of the Green terrors, therefore are commonly mixed up as blue acaras.

i will try 2 post some pics for you later, once i get back 2 my computer.

Blue acaras do look a lot like green terrors. There are a few differences though, such as the colored edges of the fins. Blue Acaras will have a colored edge, usually orange, on the dorsal fin only. If your fish has the orange coloration on the tail fin also, then it is likely a green terror. Also, and this may just be from my experience, but blue acaras seem to have a more "rounder" appearance than green terrors.

Here's a picture of a blue acara I used to keep, along with a picture of one of my juvenile green terrors:

wynn - sorry either the pics aren't showing, or my computer isn't loading them correctly. I do have a green terror at about 1.5 - 2 inches right now. It does have orange around all the fins.

This fish in question looks nothing like a GT. It is literally all blue, even the fins. It gets lighter towards the belly. It has irridecent spots on the fin and gills, not all over it's body like a GT's. It is by no means 'rounder', it's body is long. In fact it looks almost exactly like the Blue Mbuna that is pictured here at AC. The only difference is that it (my fish) is blue even on the fins, where as AC's picture has some yellow to it. Also the blue dot on the AC pic is about where the irridecent spot is, except a little lower.

Not really sure why the pics aren't showing up for you. They are showing up for me. Anyway, if your fish doesn't resemble a green terror, then it probably isn't a blue acara. They look a lot like each other when they are small.

Well I wasn't very convinced that it was a blue acara so I talked to a lady at the lfs, and she told me that it may have been labled wrong so she allowed me to return it. They didn't have any real blue acaras there so I just go the money back. Gonna probaly go for a Firemouth instead. Thanks for your help though.
