I'd highly recommend the blue crayfish. If you have a filter or airstone, you shouldn't have any problems with the oxygen issue. I've got a 5" blue alleni in a 29g and he's just incredible. A fascinating creature to watch. But, the pacisfist crayfish is probably in the minority. "Gumbo" loves to try to catch the fish in his aquarium. Having them live a year shouldn't be a problem at all, though, provided you give them the right environment. As has been mentioned, www.bluecrayfish.com is an EXCELLENT resource and would also be a good place to buy the crayfish from (cheaper than a local fish store).

PS, The 10 gallon will probably be fine. 12 or 15 would be better, but the 10 gallon should be okay. Just make sure its well aerated.

I dont have a whole lot of aeration in my tank, just the basic hang on back filter that came with my girlfriend's 20 gallon (she went to a biowheel). But with only the one fish, the one little crayfish and a half dozen or so ghost shrimp, everybody in the tank is acting fine.

If the filter is rated for 20 gallons, that would fall under my definition of "fine." ;) The agitation of the water from a filter rated at (least) twice the capacity of your 10g would probably do it... as it clearly has.

EDIT: And, for fear of the detail-queens on the board, please don't interpret my saying "twice the capacity" as being a minimum requirement or whatever. Just saying it's "fine." ;)

Good point. I guess I was just saying that there isnt much agitation of the water, and everybody is doing ok...

Blue crays live 2-3 years. If the crab you are talking about is the fiddler, then most will tell you blue cray because theres only live a month. the reason for that is, that a common belife that the fiddler prefer a full aquatic set-up. Actually they live quit some time, if they have land to crawl on and off to, also, shallows so they can be moist but not sumarged. also they need slightly brackish
