Blue eye ciclids

I just had my midas/Rd lay some eggs and they DIDN'T get fertilized....I think it took 2 or 3 days and then they started to turn to WHITE. You can tell the difference in color. If they do turn white i'm sure they wil try again soon. good luck

Good news!

No more eggs today when i got home from work... hundreds of fry herded into the overturned castle ornement that they have made their cave.

Cool beans. How long until fry are stable enough to move into a 'fry tank'

how best to feed little ones?

I waited a week or two for my blue convicts. the parents took good care of their fry. If you remove fry to a fry tank just take half or the parents might think that the other one didn't do there job and fight till death. What size fry tank? I put the parents with the fry in there for about a month and then put the parents back into the main tank. The only problem fish would be the oscar so the Blue Eyes will probably be ok and team up to beat on it, if you want to leave the fry in the main tank.
if you need to get rid of some of the fry I'd be happy to take a few off yout hands. :D

Whenever I'm working with Central American cichlids...and the male is abusing the female, I remove the male....leave the female in the tank to recover, then re-add the male and try again. The female will have been given the cahnce to not only recover, but she have gotten to know her territory....and the male will be the 'newcomer'.

As you know, have a good amount of hiding places.
Some ppl say large water changes also help.
Frequent small feedings may also help.

If the female is significantly smaller than the male, it may be difficult to get the male to accept her.

I have a male convict which harshly ATTACKS any female that is his size or smaller. But...if I put him in with a female that is larger than him - he starts courting.

He likes the older women :P

Hmmm, I may have to look into getting a different female, or another.

The male is probably full grown or close, he's roughly 4.5" long. The female is probably only 2" diameter at best. I'm a little concerned about having 3 in a 10g tank though, won't that be overstocked?

I'll set up a temp. home for the male (I'll get in trouble with the Mrs. for this one ;) ) and add some more hiding spots.
