Hi I realize its a cyanobacteria and not an algae but will herbivores eat it? Like cichlids or plecos or shrimp? My yellow labs seem to love it.
Are you sure they aren't just picking at bits of food caught in the BGA?
I've never heard of any FW species eating the cyanobacteria we see in aquariums, although there are a lot of different species of the bacteria out there so I guess it's not impossible. Spirulina, for example, is a common ingredient in both fish and a supplement in some human foods and is a type of BGA.
I havent feed my yellow labs in 6 months and somehow i see them with full bellies every day. BTW full bellies as in bloated fat. Not skinny at all if they were even slightly skinny i would be feeding them ASAP. I feed all my other tanks but this 1. Because its entirely self-sustaining and has an extremely low bioload.

Are you sure it is BG algae??
