A few weeks ago I bought some blue pearl shrimp from 2 different sellers on AB and was not sure if that is what I got. The one order had some pretty blue ones, the other order had larger shrimp but most were almost white (a lot of the shrimp berried up right away from both orders but nothing as of yet but I may not see any just yet), I thought I might have gotten something else but have read that some were rather drab or very pale. I noticed that somepeople sell the snow ball shrimp. Is this the same species if snowballs and blue pearls were together what would you get? What are your experiances with blue pearls and do you have some pics I will try to post some of mine in a day or two.

I took some photos of my blue shrimp

Here are pics of mine. It seems that the males are really a milky white and sometimes have a tinge of brown in them and the females have the blue tinge and some have a lot more blue in them than others. I find that the blue comes out more as the females get older. Kind of like RCS.

Your first two pictures are BP for sure jabo, the third one I'm not so sure of.

Here are some pictures of mine. Hope they help.

Twohobbies, those shrimp are gorgeous and the pix--especially the closeups--are terrific. A question though: The bottom ones look to my (very untrained) eye almost like blue tigers, what with the stripes and all. What are the differences between the two, visually? Do blue pearls also have stripes and they're just not showing up well in the pictures?

Very nice pictures. I seem to have alot of difficulty taking real good ones. I took like 30 just to get a few good ones.

Yeah some look real blue like you all say and I guess that they were the females like Reds but one big milky colored one has eggs. That specific one made me think it was something else because it was a bit larger than the others with eggs but maybee it is just older. I will just need to wait and see.
With seeing the shared pics I am pretty confident that I got what I paid for (blue Pearls) but I guess I still worry a bit.

Not every female shrimp will be as colorful as the other. It is the same way with RCS. Sometimes, there are some pale red females. I think it has a lot to do with how stressed the specific shrimp is. Who knows, maybe that big female is sick or stressed.

Thanks XanAvaloni: Blue tigers are more tiger striped, but the biggest difference is BP's almost always have some red spots, or stripes and dark eyes. BT's have dark blue, or black stripes and white eyes.

Blue tigers have orange eyes, and are caridina, whereas the blue pearls are neos.
